How old is Nyssa meant to be?
In Black Orchid, she tries to order an alcoholic drink but the Doctor stops her.

Well, the TARDIS Data Core site says this: "She initially travelled with him (the Doctor) when she was barely more than a girl."

I always assumed she and Adric were in their late teens when they each joined Team TARDIS. The Doctor seems to have no trouble letting Tegan order a screwdriver in "Black Orchid," so he considers her "of age" as compared to the others. Then Lord Cranleigh, at the Doctor's little "harumph," suggests orange juice for "the children."

Interestingly, Nyssa's double, Ann Talbot, who's old enough (18-20?) to have been engaged to George, and then to his brother, asks for a lemonade (as the Doctor did).

It's possible that he's worried about the effect of alcohol on alien physiology, rather than her age. It seems unlikely that Nyssa even knows what she's asking for. Cranleigh may just assume she's too young to drink when the Doctor objects.

In Battlefield, he refuses to let Ace order a beer even though Ace is human. He doesn't even let her order a Coca-Cola, even though that would be safe.

Sarah Sutton was 19 when she played Nyssa. The character's age is never really stated as far as I know, although IMO the implication is she's much younger when she joins the TARDIS team than she is when she leaves, based on the way they gradually matured her hairstyle and costume. The gap between "Time-Flight" and "Arc of Infinity" is only described in terms of how long it's been for Tegan, not for Nyssa and the Doctor, so she could've been with him for years. Also, I can't remember if it's canon or fanon, but I know I've seen somewhere (and used it in my own stories) that Trakenites age more slowly than humans.

So, um, I guess the tl;dr answer to your question is I think you can get away with making her just about any age you want, within reason. *g*
